An XC MTB computer, also called an odometer or bike computer, is an electronic device mounted on the handlebars of a mountain bike that provides information about speed, distance traveled, elapsed time, and sometimes other relevant data for the cyclist, it's a part of essential MTB accessories. Here are its main functions and characteristics:
Function of a MTB computer :
1. Speed measurement:
The XC MTB computer measures the bike's moving speed in real time, allowing the rider to know their instantaneous speed at any time.
2. Tracking distance traveled:
The MTB computer records the total distance traveled since the start of the ride or since the last reset, providing information on the total distance accumulated during a hike or mountain bike session.
3. Stopwatch:
It has a stopwatch function that records the time since the start of the ride, allowing the rider to track their ride duration or time specific segments of the ride.
4. Other Features:
Some XC mountain bike computers can also provide additional data such as altitude, temperature, pedaling cadence, heart rate (when used in conjunction with a heart rate sensor) and even GPS navigation in some more advanced models.
Features of a MTB computer :
1. Display:
XC MTB computers are equipped with an LCD or LED screen that displays real-time data clearly and easily readable, even in varying light conditions.
2. Assembly:
They are usually attached to the MTB handlebars using specific brackets, ensuring secure installation and easy access while riding.

4. Waterproofing:
They are often designed to be water and dust resistant, providing reliable protection against the elements and variable weather conditions encountered while XC mountain biking.
