UCI road cycling world championships 2020

The UCI road world championships have taken place from 24 to 27 september 2020 in Imola from Italy. The MTB UCI world championnships were organized at Leogang in Austria from 5 to 11 october 2020.

UCI road world championships :

The time trials race took place on 25 september, over 32 kilometers wihout difficulties, no more than 200 meters of elevation. The italian favourite Filippo Ganna won the race with an average speed of 57.6 km/h and a gear ratio 60x11 before the Belgian Wout Van Aert.

On 27 september the men UCI road world championships was organized on a circuit of 258.2 kilometers with 5000 meters of elevation. The race was calm until the 170th kilometers when the french team has placed an attack and started to lengthen the peloton. After that they came back in the peloton and the belgium team took the head of the peloton. Tadej Pogacar tries a breakaway 50 km from the finish, he took maximum 20 seconds before came back in the peloton. In the last ascent, a small group stands out from the peloton in which Julian Alaphilippe, Marc Hirschi and Wout Van Aert are present. At the end of the last ascent, Julian Alaphilippe leaves the group and take 15 seconds, he does the last 15 kilometers alone and becomes world champion 2020. The last french world champion was Laurent Brochard in 1997.

UCI MTB world championships 2020 :

The 2020 Elite Cross Country Mountain Bike World Championships took place on October 10 in Leogang, Austria on a challenging course because it was technical, steep and muddy, the moments of respite and recovery were few, the only flat area if it was at the level from the finish line. Their organization was initially planned from june 25 to 28 in Albstadt in Germany but were canceled and then postponed in october because of the Covid-19 pandemic in the world.

Women's MTB cross country event on October 10, 2020:

Pauline Ferrand Prevot of the Canyon Sram Racing team, defending champion and favorite left no hope for her opponents by taking the race on her own from the start and regularly taking time off her pursuers. At 28, she completed her record with a new title of XC mountain bike world champion. She thus confirms her talent and versatility because she is the only cyclist to have world champion titles in the three disciplines: cross country mountain bike, cyclo-cross and road cycling.

Pauline Ferrand Prevot had chosen a Canyon semi-rigid mountain bike with a long adjustable seat post for better downhill control.

Men's MTB cross country event on October 10, 2020:

Jordan Sarrou of the Absolute Absalon team put an end to the unbelievable consistency of the Swiss Nino Schurter, defending champion since 2015. Indeed, the last French to have obtained the title of world champion in cross country mountain bike was Julien Absalon also manager of the team he created Absolute Absalon.

At 27, Jordan Sarrou won alone ahead of the Swiss Mathias Fluckiger at 45 seconds and the French Titouan Carod (Absolute Absalon team) at 55 seconds. The same year, he won the French MTB XC Championship and the MTB XC World Championship.

For this event, Jordan Sarrou had chosen a full suspension XC mountain bike equipped with an adjustable telescopic seat post.
